We are currently seeking a Quality Control Laboratory Supervisor at our Colonsay, SK location. The successful candidate is accountable for the operation of the Colonsay QC Laboratory and the coordination and direction of the duties of the QC personnel to deliver high quality products to the end user. The QC Supervisor is accountable for maintaining the requirements of the PBU Quality Assurance and Quality Control programs. The incumbent will provide analytical and QC technical direction at the plant level and will provide quality support at the PBU level. Major focus to ensure compliance for Potash QA protocols and QC programs including Safe Feed/Safe Food, Export Organic protocol and internal auditing programs to maintain the Mosaic quality systems. The QC Supervisor is responsible for making decisions and providing guidance at the site level on shipment release decisions in the event of product non-conformance.
What will you be working on?
Oversee day-to-day operations of the QC Laboratory in order to provide information to production for process operation and release of railcars for shipping. This includes scheduling and providing technical support, training, mentoring, and task prioritization to QC Laboratory personnel that provide 24 hour coverage. Development, mentoring and identifying training opportunities for QC lab employees is to be incorporated into daily activities. Communicate company objectives to employees, motivate subordinates to perform their jobs to the highest standards by leading by example. Coach employees and provide support and timely feedback. Coach and assist the QC personnel on Visual Management Boards and Performance Dialogs with a focus on both implementation and sustainability.
Review trend production and shipment quality data. Identify areas of concern and communicate with Colonsay operations, management and PBU QA personnel for at risk quality items. Compile and present relevant quality data to site management, Product Quality, and Supply Chain meetings. Provide support for technical inquiries, customer requests, and development of product specifications relating to Colonsay products. Responsible for compiling relevant data, coordinating analysis, and participating in Affinity Quality incident investigation and Root Cause Analysis meetings.
Ensure the Colonsay QC Laboratory maintains compliance with; the PBU Quality Assurance and Quality Control Programs, EHS MS protocols, MOC protocols, Safe Feed/Safe Food, Export Organic Protocol, and internal PBU audit systems. Provide support for technical inquiries and customer requests relating to Colonsay products. Responsible for updating, reviewing and creating all documents and keeping them up to date for document control standards. The QC Supervisor is accountable for ensuring calibration, SQC, maintenance and training is performed on all laboratory instrumentation. Contribute to Mosaic's continuous improvement initiatives by directing applicable continuous improvement initiatives and supporting special project and improvement initiatives.
Responsible for compiling and monitoring QC lab yearly budget, planning long and short term QC spends and submitting triages for new projects. Stay abreast of new technologies. Complete bid waiver and Maximo service requisitions for service contracts on instrumentation and create annual purchase order numbers. Create service requests and work with planners on site to plan jobs and create purchase requests for all consumables. Develop and maintain chemical and consumable supply matrix through inventory management and Maximo ordering.
Actively promote safety program and ensure employees are working in a safe manner, following all safety programs and procedures and working in compliance with all environmental and safety laws, regulations and policies. Ensure personnel are compliant in all mandatory site safety training. Responsible for entering all safety related items into AON and tracking action items.
What is required for this role?
Chemistry Degree, Laboratory Technologist, Chemical Technology or equivalent education with 10 years Industrial and Lab Background is required.
An understanding of the potash product end use characteristics combined with supervisory experience, knowledge of computer software applications, and good writing skills are required assets.
A minimum of 10 years of experience in potash production or in a Quality role is preferred.
The incumbent must possess knowledge of mining processes and practices, a working knowledge of potash refining and processing technology, and extensive experience in Quality Assurance and Quality Control practices is preferred.
Required skills in Microsoft Office, Maximo, LabVantage, SAP, and AON.
Employment is subject to successfully completing Mosaic's pre-employment checks including criminal, drug and alcohol testing.
Must be authorized to work in Canada.
